The dawn is DEAD!

Holy bad writing Batman! I can not say enough bad things about Twilight. The least of which is that I'm so very glad to have finally finished it. I will not be reading the other books in the series. I can't say it's the worst book I've ever read--that prize goes to any number of Stephen King books. I took the dreadful book to the hospital and EVRY nurse that came into my room practically swooned--"Are you reading Twilight? Don't you just LOVE IT!" Um, no. As a matter of fact, I HATE IT. They all seemed to understand my reasons, and one nurse did share my general "What's the big deal about this book" attitude. I can see why the movie will do well--they'll skip the first 300 pages and get right to the action, and hopfully they won't fade to black when anything remotely interesting happens. Sigh! Oh well. I've moved on to a classic--I need something to remind me that good writing is out there, even if I have to go back to the 19th century to find it.

You have to keep in mind who this book is aimed for. This book is for the 14 - 17 year old girls who are searching for their true love. It is really sappy. These are the same people who read romance novels, which you would hate. That is what these books are, romance novels with vampires.

I must tell you that 3 and 4 are much better because their is a lot more action. If you hated 1 you will hate 2 even more.

The movie was good only if you are a fan of the books. The movie assumes that you have read the books because is rushes things. For those who have never read them or hated them, then the movie was awful. Yes it is bad writing but for teen girls who want romance this was perfect.

What classic have you moved on to? Personally, I find most classics to be awful because they don't wear well. That was my problem with Frankenstein. Shelley took entire chapters to say "I curse the day I was born!" There! I just said in one sentence what she took seemingly hours to say.

I'm reading "The Phanotm of the Opera". It's fabulous--even the introduction is engaging. Love it.

I LOVED "Frankenstein". True, it's a little overly descriptive, but at least it's well written. All of that extra stuff builds character.

I just don't care

I'm reading this book, the Husband's Secret .  The jacket cover was so compelling!  A woman finds a letter addressed to her from her husband that she is to read in the event of his death...but he's still alive! Somehow, this letter affects not only her, but two other women that she barely knows.  Wow!  What a premise!  I have to read this! Um, no. Sadly, these characters are completely unsympathetic.  I don't like the woman who's daughter was murdered 20 years before.  I don't like the woman who's husband has left her because he's fallen in love with her cousin.  I don't mind the woman who found the letter but I don't really care about her either.  The only person I can identify with and feel defensive towards is the daughter-in-law.  She's a career woman who has a wonderful opportunity that will move her and her family from Australia to New York.  Her mother-in-law is angry because she's taking the grandson away.  Sorry, l...

The Wonderful World of Meat Substitutes

I didn’t become a vegetarian until a little over two years ago. I used to think it would be absolutely impossible for me to do—I’m in love with chicken! Can’t give that up. No way. Well, clearly, I did give it up (although so many non-vegetarians say things to me like “you eat chicken, right? Chicken’s a vegetable.” Um, no.). I often encounter someone that is unaware of my food lifestyle and after the initial shock wears off, they want to know if I miss meat. The answer is a resounding no. I hardly notice it at all. I won’t go into why I don’t eat meat (not now anyway). There are different types of vegetarians. I am what is known as a lacto-ovo vegetarian—I eat eggs and diary but nothing that used to crawl, swim, walk or fly. No chicken, no cow, no pig, no lamb, no fish.
